• After executive session, executive committee votes 14-1 to enter a partnership with Outfront Media, a group that helps with marketing of high schools/associations. Move will add staff to LHSAA
• Assistant Executive Director Karen Hoyt starts discussion on how LHSAA handles payouts to schools for championship events in all sports. Idea now is to study it more
• Lee Bellard of Church Point suggests LHSAA pay out necessary expenses before LHSAA takes its cut. Committee decides to revisit in June after added study
• Committee members praise Assistant Director Fallon Buckner after her report, which included info on LHSAA soccer tourney.
• Mitch Small gives marketing report and notes that CLECO and Partners Pharmacy stepped in and provide sponsorship to cover production costs that allowed Cox Sports Television to show all to air all 24 basketball title games LHSAA
• J.T. Curtis of John Curtis appears before committee to ask for an exhibition or tuneup baseball game, like the ones basketball is allowed to do, if their school has a first-round bye
• Jane Griffin of Winnfield notes that byes in baseball are not just a select school issue and that all schools could benefit
• Motion is passed, effective immediately, allowing baseball and softball teams to play tuneup games if their school has an opening-round playoff bye. This is a good thing for both sports
• Review of proposals/bylaws that need clarification continues. Most of cleaning up language, reflect portions that are outdated or update areas where sports/school make-up issues, such as dual enrollment schools
• Committee passes basketball proposals that have already passed but have been an issue to implement. One mirrors football and would not allow a school winning a game to get fewer power points than losing team. It passes
• Discussion on proposal to eliminate quarterfinal round from state softball tournament now that a January proposal allows teams to play one game a day. This would go into effect next year, 2019
• Softball motion passes, effective in 2019
• Keith Alexander tells committee that the LHSAA powerlifting meet has grown from 500 to 900 in just five years
• Alexander says powerlifting is LHSAA's fastest growing sports for girls
• Alexander pitches "Officiate Louisiana Day" on July 28 at the Downtown Marriott. Currently over 250 officials regisitered for event designed to promote officiating
• Karen Hoyt tells committee in her report that formula guarantee payouts to teams has almost doubled with change to select/nonselect tournament, but attendance increases don't make up difference
• Hoyt notes that in 2016 girls attendance pre-split was 15,306 and this year it was 18,279. Boys was approximately 24,000 in 2016 and 27,000 this year
• LHSCA Director Terence Williams discusses the option of raising ticket prices as a way to make up the difference. Says per-game cost for a full-session ticket is less than $2 for basketball and football less than $5
• LHSAA Executive Director Eddie Bonine says a $2 increase of football ticket sales would have covered initial cost and made it possible to increase payouts.
