Last year I picked St. Eds correctly with Basile taking second. Going off of some of what I know here is how I see it going this year.
1. Basile: The Bearcats return 97% of their starters. Still a young team but a lot of experience back that will probably carry on for the next few year's. They managed to give Oak Grove a run for their money last year in the quarters. Losing only 3 starters, I think they will take this district pretty easily.
2. St. Eds: The blue jays return a few lineman on both sides of the ball that are really strong. Downfall to the blue jays is they will be without their power fullback who transferred to Iota, LB,CB,ss who all have graduated. Still doesn't mean they don't have a chance but being that Basile and St. Eds meet early in district, I don't think they will be mature enough.
3. Oberlin-Elton: toss up right here. Both lost a good amount to graduation. Both return a few key players that did really well last year. I think they will battle for 3rd. These top 4 always battle each other hard but I just think they are too far behind.
5. Merryville-Grand Lake: I'm just going to go with my gut on this one. Both showed improvement last year. Grand Lake gave Elton, Basile and St. Eds a great game last year. Reason I'm going with a toss up for them is, if memory serves me right, they both lost a close amount of personal. I think Grand Lake will end up taking 5th but who knows.
7. South Cameron-Hamilton: Crazy, 3 years ago, South Cameron broke their losing streak, made it to the regionals and nearly pulled off the upset over White Castle to move on to the quarters. Hamilton was also rolling at that time. Won district and made a quarter final appearance for the 2nd year in a row. Now, they seem to be back struggling just to get enough kids to dress out. That sentence above says it all. Battle for 7th. Flip a coin.
