As we roll into spring training season, the LHSAA Coaching Carousel continues to roll as well.
EAST ST. JOHN has hired St. Helena head coach Brandon Brown to the same position, as well as athletic director. Brown replaces Aldon Foster, who was fired in March after going 13-22 in three seasons.
Brown has had much success as head coach at St. Helena over last five seasons, culminating in a trip to the Class 2A State Championship last season.
He is an East St. John alumni and was a standout on the field as an all-state player and off the field as an honor student. After high school, he earned a scholarship to Alcorn State where he was a two-year starter.
With that said, ST. HELENA has joined the coaching carousel for the first time in five years after former head coach Brandon Brown accepted the head coaching and athletic director position at his alma mater East St. John.
The Hawks 36-25 in five seasons under Brown and led his team to the Class 2A State Championship last season before a late rally fell short against Welsh.
Whoever is selected as the next head coach will have plenty of talent coming back at St. Helena from a state runner-up team.
CEDAR CREEK has a new head coach following the resignation of Ben Maddox.
Former Jonesboro-Hodge head coach Shannon Brown will be the new head coach of the Cougars.
Maddox cited needing to spend more time with his family as his reasoning for stepping down. He will remain has head baseball coach, athletic director, and dean of students at Cedar Creek.
The Cougars were 61-35 in eight seasons under Maddox, making the state semifinals twice and the quarterfinals four times.
